2014: a year of engineering milestones for MIPAC.
16-Dec-2014 MIPAC is contributing to the success of major engineering projects at a wide range of locations around the world. Click through to the stories below to review MIPAC’s successes in 2014.

Glencore: Ernest Henry Mine, Queensland Australia
MIPAC played an integral part in the AUD589 million project which transitioned the mine from an open pit to underground operation. MIPAC worked on underground mine infrastructure, dewatering, and crushing, handling and conveying works.

GeoProMining Gold: Albion Process™ Plant, Ararat, Armenia
Working closely with Glencore Technology, MIPAC delivered ground-breaking technology to GeoProMining Gold LLC’s Albion Process Plant in Ararat, Armenia. The two-year project saw MIPAC deliver detailed EI&C design, drawings, configuration and testing, and a technical procurement package.

Fluor Canada Ltd / Vale: Long Habour Nickel Processing Plant, Canada
MIPAC supplied its wireless state-of-the-art continuous cell voltage monitoring system, CellView®, to Vale’s Newfoundland and Labrador’s Long Harbour nickel plant in Canada. The order included 272 voltage and temperature monitors — the first CellView® system to be used in a nickel refining application.

Milestone Projects / Glencore: McArthur River Mine, Northern Territory, Australia
MIPAC built a Yokogawa DCS interface as part of the $360 million expansion of the Glencore-owned McArthur River Mine (MRM) in the Northern Territory. The MRM Phase 3 Development Project will increase production capacity from 2.5 million tonnes to more than five million tonnes per year.

Mopani Copper Mines: supply of a substantial CellView® wireless cell voltage monitoring system, Zambia
MIPAC’s wireless cell voltage monitoring system, CellView®, is being installed as part of a significant tankhouse upgrade project at Mopani Copper Mines. MIPAC is delivering the design, configuration, supply and FAT for a complete CellView® system to monitor 1362 cells at the Mopani Tankhouse. The order also includes two ShortMeters™, MIPAC’s short circuit detection monitors.

Nickel West: plant-wide distributed control system upgrade, Kalgoorlie, Western Australia
MIPAC was selected to upgrade the Yokogawa CS3000 system at the Nickel West smelter in Kalgoorlie. The project is seeing obsolete MicroXL units replaced and existing CS3000 systems upgraded to Centum VP. Any identified safety instrumented functions (SIFs) from the hazard and operability studies (HAZOP) assessments are being removed from existing software code and implemented in an independent safety instrumented system (SIS).

Newcrest: Telfer gold mine, Western Australia
MIPAC performed a technically challenging upgrade of the distributed control network at Newcrest’s Telfer gold mine. The site was experiencing network loading issues and MIPAC’s Yokogawa experts proposed an unconventional approach to improvements which satisfied Newcrest’s need for zero down time.

12-Jul-2015 | MIPAC’s short-circuit and dead plate detection monitor, ShortMeter™, is used by several electrowinning and refining operations around the globe since 2009.
The device has recently received a functionality upgrade, making it a dual range sensing, and thus eliminating the need for two separate models to suit tankhouses based on their respective electric currents.
Power Station performance monitoring as easy as PI
12-Jul-2015 | Working on site at the Australian Power Station, NSW — a natural gas-fuelled 162 MW cogeneration plant, MIPAC PI expert John Messinger was tasked with integrating the Metso data into PI, generating performance screens, automating plant reports and training staff in the PI System.
