Project Overview

Design and commission a lead smelter installation for secondary lead recycling purposes, including associated plants to safely and efficiently handle all by-products and hygiene issues. The plant was based around the innovative Australian ISASMELT™ technology provided by MIM Holdings Ltd.

MIPAC Scope:

• Client’s representative on control and instrumentation systems
• Control system and instrumentation selection
• Instrument design
• Control system configuration
• Commissioning assistance

Technical Highlights:

• Successfully pre-commissioned the plant with very limited and superficial knowledge from most local vendors. Many solutions entailed 'on site' redesigning by MIPAC.
• Provided an operating interface for experienced operators with little previous exposure to automated control processes.
This was achieved by:
• Extensive use of ‘smart’ alarming to ensure only relevant information was presented.
• Ongoing improvement of control of the ISASMELT™ process through integration of hard wired controls into the DCS system to allowing the operator to act quickly and intuitively to abnormal situations.
