Project Overview:
Replace existing furnace with new technology ISASMELT™ furnace. Output 125,000 TPY copper metal.
Associated works for the ISASMELT™ included a new Waste Heat Boiler and Oxygen Plant, as well as increased capacity of an existing Acid Plant.
MIPAC Scope:
• Control system and instrumentation selection
• Detailed design engineering of instrumentation and control system
• Control system configuration
• Commissioning assistance
• Brisbane-based and onsite training for YCC engineers
Technical Highlights:
• Emerson Delta V version 4.2 control system
• Successful technology transfer to site personnel with remote monitoring facilities for support
Results:
• YCC focus on training led to rapid start-up and a smooth transfer of technology
• Increased production capacity at reduced unit cost
• Dramatically improved environmental outcomes, reducing negative impacts
• Created safer operating environment
• Changed operating culture by introducing highly automated, centralised smelting control
