Mipac Business Development Manager Martin Halsey recently took annual leave to represent Queensland in a two-week hockey tournament in Canberra.
His team was undefeated all the way to the grand final — where victory was snatched from its grasp.
A hockey player for more than 35 years, Martin plays for the Kedron-Wavell Services Hockey Club (with fellow Mipacian David Wilson) and in the Division Two team for Queensland.
He has represented the state for the past seven years, helping to secure two Australian Championship victories.
“I enjoy playing team sports and I’ve made great friends through hockey,” Martin says. “I also play for fitness and because it’s a fun game.”
Martin, who played hockey at school and joined a club at 18, says his commitment to the sport has grown over the years and he admits that hockey now consumes most of his time outside work.
“I train once a week and play two or three games a week,” he says. “I obviously enjoy it but my wife hates it!”
