Northern Star Resources encountered problems with its resource-intensive manual data entry processes.
Northern Star Resources engaged Mipac to deploy the latest AVEVA PI System technology including PI AF as an advanced foundation to integrate both process data and manually entered data.
Background
The Pogo Mine Alaska is located 220 kilometres southeast of Fairbanks, Alaska. Production commenced in 2006 with >4Moz production to date. The site was acquired by Northern Star Resources in 2018.
Pogo Mine had been enduring numerous challenges with Excel-based logsheets, including:
- Time consuming for operators
- Manual entry of DCS data
- Access control/security of Excel
- Multiple copies of the same Excel spreadsheet
- Data lag - AVEVA PI System uploads confined to 24-hour period averages
- Prone to errors
Scope
Mipac worked with Pogo to implement MPA Logsheets.
- Leverage existing plant data in the PI System
- Configure and template logsheets format and structure using PI Asset Framework
- Make data entry web based, user-friendly and easy to use
- Organise data entry into set time periods and at fixed and user selectable timestamps
- Real-time data upload for improved process monitoring
- Store manual data entry in the site historian to be cross-referenced and compared against other plant data existing within the historian

Data visualisation
- User selectable time period of plant performance and manual data entry pages readily available
- A single source of truth derived from real-time plant data and manually entered data for decision making
- Key plant data readily accessible and available to view and share for a wider audience

- Streamlined web-based data entry into the PI System combined with real time plant data from the PI System
