This established copper mine faced the challenge of modernising its aging mineral processing plant while maintaining operational continuity. The solution came in the form of a state-of-the-art control system seamlessly integrated with existing infrastructure. The system provides real-time data and automated process control, leading to improved efficiency, reduced water consumption, and enhanced environmental compliance.  

This copper/gold processing plant in the remote highlands of PNG successfully revitalised its operations by implementing a modern control system. The system integrates with legacy equipment and sensors, allowing for real-time monitoring of ore quality, mill performance, and environmental parameters. This has resulted in optimised gold recovery rates, reduced energy consumption, and improved regulatory compliance.

Kansanshi Mine is one of the oldest mines in Africa, with direct copper smelting dating back to the 4th Century. However, its control system wasn’t that old. Originally commissioned in 2014/15, it was in need of an upgrade but with a very tight 8-week timeline. Working closely with the client and suppliers, our Mipac engineers delivered on time and to schedule – all during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Using a staggered transition to the new control system, we reduced the cut-over window to 5 days.
