Mineral processing automation. Every layer. Every phase.

Mipac works exclusively in mineral processing automation. That focus is what makes our engineers genuinely specialist – not generalist consultants who’ve done a bit of mining. We’re hiring Control Systems Engineers across all levels for our Brisbane, Perth and Tucson offices.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

If you've built the skills, this is the environment to use them properly.

We’re looking for control systems engineers who want more than one system, one project phase, or one operating environment. At Mipac you’ll work across Rockwell, Siemens, Yokogawa, and others – across greenfield builds and brownfield upgrades – in Australia, Africa, PNG, the Americas and beyond.

Senior engineers come to Mipac because they want accountability and client-facing responsibility. Early-career engineers come because they want breadth, good mentors, and the chance to see how a plant actually comes together on site. Both are valid reasons.

What we don’t offer: a single-asset role where you spend five years on one system. What we do offer: the range and depth that builds a career worth having.

Platforms our engineers work across:

  • Rockwell
  • Yokogawa
  • Siemens
  • Schneider
  • AVEVA
  • Aspentech
  • PLC
  • SCADA
  • DCS
  • HMI
  • APC

You don’t need experience across all of these. You need deep experience in some of them, and the aptitude to pick up others on the job.

FROM THE FIELD

This is what working at Mipac actually looks like.

Our engineers have recently commissioned on gold mines in PNG, copper mine expansions in Zambia, and across active projects in Australia, the US, Canada and Central America.

ZAMBIA | 2025 | COPPER

Zubair Khalid

Control Systems Engineer – six months on site commissioning a $1.25bn mine expansion

It was one of Mipac's biggest international projects of 2025. I came back a different engineer.

PNG | 2025 | GOLD AND COPPET

Camilo Bogota

Control Systems Engineer – Siemens commissioning at Kainantu Gold Mine, 1.2 Mtpa Stage 3 expansion

When the opportunity came to apply my Siemens skills on a real project, it was time to shine. The team didn't want me to leave.

THE WORK

The full automation stack. In the sector that demands it most.

Most engineering roles put you at one layer of the stack. At Mipac, you work across all of them, from control philosophy and platform selection at the concept stage, through E&I design, integration, FAT, commissioning, and operational handover.

And because Mipac works almost exclusively in mineral processing automation , not water, not manufacturing, not utilities, that breadth accumulates in one high-value niche. An engineer at Mipac in five years will have touched more technology, more project phases, and more operational environments than a counterpart in an in-house or single-asset role.

The projects range from greenfield builds, where the automation architecture you define at the concept stage will shape operability for the life of the asset, to brownfield upgrades, where the job is diagnosing where a plant is losing performance and building the path forward.

MAC

Main Automation Contracting – single point of accountability across E&I design, integration and commissioning.

APC

Advanced Process Control – optimising circuit performance through model-based control and loop tuning

OT

Operational Technology – from field instrumentation to enterprise integration, built on process understanding

MPA

Mipac’s proprietary software suite – including Production Monitor, Digital TARP, Alarm Manager, Loop Performance, Logsheets and more

INTERNATIONAL PROJECT EXPERIENCE

Projects in Australia, PNG, Zambia, Panama, the US and Canada. Honest framing.

International project work is a real part of life at Mipac — not a hypothetical. Here’s what that actually involves.

For senior engineers, site work means representing Mipac as the technical authority – running FATs, leading commissioning, and being the person on the ground when the pressure is highest. It’s also the point at which your employer’s reputation works for you: when Mipac engineers walk on site, clients know the name and trust the standard.

For early-career engineers, it’s a rare chance to see how a project actually comes together outside an office – the kind of site experience that takes years to accumulate in a domestic-only role.

Extended assignments run up to six weeks at a time. This is not a FIFO role. Travel is a feature for the right person, and a significant commitment — we say this plainly because engineers with families deserve to know what they’re considering. The professional upside is real.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA · 5 years into a major modernisation roadmap

ZAMBIA · $1.25bn expansion of a copper processing plant

PANAMA Bringing a world-scale copper concentrator back online

CANADA · Active projects with leading BC steelmaking coal miner

AUSTRALIA WA · QLD · Domestic copper, gold and iron ore projects

WHAT WORKING AT MIPAC INCLUDES

Five words that come with evidence.

Single-word values are meaningless without context. Here’s what each one looks like in practice at Mipac.

INTEGRITY

We tell clients what they need to hear — including when the answer is that the problem was designed in from the start. Our reputation is built on delivery, not on telling people what they want to hear.

QUALITY

We don’t hand over a control system and walk away. Our engineers stay involved through commissioning and operational readiness because the job isn’t done until the plant performs.

COLLABORATION

Senior engineers at Mipac work alongside other experienced specialists across multiple projects. The standard rises because the people around you have seen it done better, and expect the same of you.

FLEXIBILITY

730 projects across different technologies, geographies, and project types. We take on complex work because we can adapt across platforms, project phases, and the ambiguity that comes with them.

INNOVATION

We innovate from evidence, not speculation. When you’ve delivered automation across 55 countries in one sector, you develop a pattern library most engineers don’t have access to.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mipac engineers work across multiple automation platforms, including Rockwell, Siemens, Yokogawa, ABB and Schneider. Because Mipac operates as an independent engineering consultancy firm rather than a vendor-aligned integrator, platform selection is driven by the project requirements - not a preferred supplier relationship. Engineers gain exposure to a broader range of systems than most in-house or single-vendor roles provide.

International travel is a genuine part of many roles at Mipac, not a hypothetical benefit. Site assignments have recently included Papua New Guinea, Zambia, Spain, and British Columbia. Extended assignments typically run up to six weeks at a time. Travel frequency varies by role and project pipeline - it is discussed honestly during the hiring process, including for engineers with family commitments.

An in-house role typically means one site, one platform, and one operating environment. At Mipac, control systems engineers work across greenfield builds, brownfield upgrades, and operational improvement projects - across multiple platforms, project phases, and client environments.

The breadth of exposure accumulates faster, and because Mipac works exclusively in mineral processing automation, that breadth builds genuine sector depth rather than generalist experience.

Yes. Strong PLC, SCADA, or DCS experience from adjacent industries -  oil and gas, water, energy and utilities - is a recognised pathway into Mipac. The mineral processing context is learnable; the fundamentals of control systems are not. Candidates are assessed on technical depth and aptitude, not sector background alone.

Mipac's primary engineering offices are in Brisbane and Perth, Australia and Tucson, Arizona. Project work extends across Australia and internationally. Relocation support is available for candidates moving to either location. Remote or hybrid arrangements are considered on a role-by-role basis.

Progression at Mipac is driven by technical capability and project accountability rather than tenure. Engineers typically move from project delivery roles into lead or principal positions as they demonstrate the ability to manage client relationships, lead commissioning engagements, and take ownership of technical outcomes.

The pace is faster than most single-asset environments because the volume and variety of project exposure is higher.
