Mipac is able to offer clients streamlined engineering services because, unlike some of its competitors, it boasts an instrumentation department which works in tandem with engineering teams.
“[Unlike some engineering firms where instrumentation expertise is contracted in just for specific aspects of a job], I work with engineers on a project from the start to the finish – from design to commissioning,” instrument and electrical supervisor / designer Jason Broadhurst says.
“Working as a team from the outset, we attend briefing sessions, project meetings and commissioning review. We get to know our projects intimately and this benefits our clients. We have a sense of ownership and take great pride in delivering a successful project.”
For example, a recent project saw Jason work with three other engineers on a CS3000 upgrade. He went to site with the designers and the engineer who wrote the code. Together they commissioned the plant.
“We shared information from the moment we were briefed and knew the plant thoroughly before we got to site,” Jason says. “This meant commissioning went smoothly and we got a result for the client in good time.”
While some engineering firms do not have instrument and electrical supervisors on staff, Jason says his services present Mipac’s clients with a more cost-effective option on jobs where an engineer is not required.
An industrially qualified electrician and instrument technician, Jason manages instrument selection, tailoring instrument choice to specific project needs, and undertakes P&ID (process and instrument diagram) review and assessment. Jason joined Mipac in 2012 and came with a wealth of experience in all forms of instrumentation including hazardous area applications.
He also supervises the installation and commissioning of instruments [such as as well as flow transmitters, pressure transmitters, limit switches, anything on a plant or instrumentation that has wires] and electrical installations.
“It is very useful to have dedicated plant experienced instrumentation people to support our engineering design services,” Mipac Operations Manager Don Robinson says.
“We are able to present the best-possible solutions for our clients in a cost-effective way and it gives our clients peace of mind to know that being able to provide proven solutions based on practical experience is a priority for us.”
